William Allen: Former Victorian Teacher Accused of Child Sexual Abuse
We are acting on a number of matters where William Allen, a former teacher, sexually assaulted students whilst teaching in various schools in Victoria. Allen taught at Champagnat College, Wangaratta, circa 1972-73, Albert Park High School from 1973 to 1975 and Templestowe High School from September 1975 to May 1982.
It has been reported that the Department of Education, in 1973, had actual knowledge of Allen’s 1966 criminal conviction for child sexual assault. Despite this, he was employed by the Department.
Allen, one of Australia’s worst paedophiles, ‘boasted’ of having sex (raping) 2000 boys. Allen committed suicide in 1985 during a Crown Appeal.
Allen’s alleged actions have had a profound impact on many individuals. If you were a victim of Allen’s abuse, or if you were a teacher, parent, or colleague who recalls his time at any of these schools, we would appreciate the opportunity to hear from you.
- Conviction and Employment: Allen was first convicted in 1966 for indecency charges involving two students at Sunshine Technical School and St Albans Technical School. Despite this, he was re-employed by the Victorian Education Department in 1973, where he continued teaching until his retirement in 1982.
- Admissions and Further Abuse: In his 1973 job application, Allen admitted to his previous conviction. During his second stint, he taught at Albert Park High School and Templestowe High School. Survivors have reported that he continued to abuse students until his retirement.
- Public Admission: In the mid-1980s, Allen publicly admitted to being a lifelong paedophile, claiming to have abused 2,000 boys.
