Witnesses Sought: Marist College Kogarah – Brother Romuald (Francis Cable)

Koffels Solicitors & Barristers are seeking information from former students, staff, or community members connected to Marist College Kogarah regarding the presence and activities of Brother Romuald (Francis William Cable) at the school and at associated cadet camps around 1968.

Brother Romuald, whose birth name was Francis Cable, was a member of the Marist Brothers, a Catholic religious order that operated many schools across New South Wales. He was later convicted of multiple counts of historical child sexual abuse and has been publicly named in connection with abuse within Marist institutions (ABC News coverage).

Francis Cable has since died, but corroborating his presence at the school during this time remains important for ongoing civil claims.

We are particularly interested in accounts that may confirm:

  • Whether Brother Romuald (Francis Cable) taught or was otherwise present at Marist College Kogarah during this period;
  • His involvement in cadet camps or other school-related excursions circa 1968;
  • Any observations, recollections, or documents (such as photographs, yearbooks, or correspondence) that may help establish his movements or role at the school at that time.

Even seemingly minor details can help build a clearer picture of the past and may support Survivors in their pursuit of justice.

If you recall any relevant information, we encourage you to share it with us in confidence. Your input may be invaluable in helping to corroborate timelines and support ongoing claims concerning historical institutional abuse.

If you or someone you know might be able to help, please call us directly on +612 9283 5599 and ask for Senior Counsel Sarah MacLellan or Senior Associate Devon Silver, or complete the free and confidential call-back form below.
