Witnesses Sought: Christian Brothers College Kalgoorlie — Brother Martin (O’Loghlen)
We act for a client who alleges they were sexually abused by Brother Martin (O’Loghlen) while a student at Christian Brothers College, Kalgoorlie (historically known as St Patrick’s Christian Brothers College Kalgoorlie).
We are seeking information from anyone who may have known or encountered Brother Martin (O’Loghlen). He was a Christian Brother who worked at schools in New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria. Even small recollections — such as staff lists, class photos, details of where he lived, who he worked with, or what was said at the time — can help build a clearer picture and support other Survivors.
Confidentiality: Any information provided will be treated with the utmost care and will not be shared without your express permission.
Why your information matters
- School history: Christian Brothers College Kalgoorlie operated under the Christian Brothers from 1906 to 1976. Knowing who was present at certain times can be crucial for corroboration (Heritage Council profile).
- Movement of Brothers: The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse found that Brothers were often transferred between schools and states, which is important context.
- Local records: Resources such as Outback Family History preserve class lists and images, which may help jog memories.
- Context on the order: For background on the Christian Brothers and how complaints were handled, see this ABC News feature.
Note on name/spelling: Historical references sometimes record the surname as O’Loghlen / O’Loughlin. If you remember a Brother “Martin” or “Mark” with either spelling at Kalgoorlie or other Christian Brothers schools, that information may still be relevant.
