Call for Witnesses – St Joseph’s College, Ouyen (1983–1985)

Koffels Solicitors & Barristers are assisting a Survivor who experienced sexual abuse while a student at St Joseph’s College, Ouyen, Victoria, during the early to mid-1980s (approximately 1983 to 1985).

The abuse is reported to have involved:

  • James Gunn, then Headmaster of St Joseph’s College, and
  • Father Paul Mirkovich, a priest associated with the school at that time.

Circumstances

The abuse occurred on school grounds and during school hours, including within school facilities where students could be isolated from others. The offending occurred on multiple occasions over approximately two years.

St Joseph’s College, Ouyen closed down in 2005 due to declining regional enrolments.

Criminal proceedings

James Gunn has since pleaded guilty to multiple historical child sexual abuse offences and was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in relation to offending against children during his time in education.
