Call for Witnesses: Inverell Primary Schools (1970s–1980s)

We are seeking information from anyone who attended primary schools in Inverell, New South Wales, during the 1970s to 1980s in connection with investigations into incidents of historical child sexual abuse.

In particular, we are looking for class photographs, yearbooks, or other records from Inverell Public School (Belgravia School) and Ross Hill Public School from approximately 1976 to 1978.

If you have any relevant information or documents relating to these schools—or any knowledge of child abuse in Inverell primary schools from that era—your assistance could be invaluable. Even small details may help us identify patterns, timelines, and individuals involved.

Those able to assist are encouraged to call +61 2 9283 5599 and ask for Sharon Cai or Danya Jalal, or email danyajalal@koffels.com.au. You may also complete the free and confidential callback form below.

What We’re Hoping to Locate

  • Class photos, school portraits, or yearbooks from the late 1970s

  • School newsletters, records, or memorabilia mentioning teachers, staff, or events

  • Information about any incidents, complaints, or concerns from that time

  • Names of individuals—students, teachers, or staff—who may recall specific events

Context That May Help Jog Memories

Inverell Public School, historically known as Belgravia School, and Ross Hill Public School are both long-established schools serving the Inverell community in northern New South Wales.

People who attended or had children enrolled there during the mid-to-late 1970s may still hold class photos, reports, or keepsakes that could assist with our enquiries.

Please note: No allegations are made against the current staff, administration, or programs of these schools. References are provided solely to help potential witnesses recall locations and time periods.

Why Historical Information Still Matters

New South Wales has no limitation period for civil actions relating to child abuse, meaning Survivors can come forward at any time.

Child safety frameworks have also evolved significantly. The NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian now oversees both the Reportable Conduct Scheme and the Child Safe Scheme, which set out how institutions must respond to and report allegations of abuse.
