Allegations of Abuse at Rosebud High School

In the 1980s, students at Rosebud High School, now known as Rosebud Secondary College in Victoria, were subjected to alleged sexual abuse by drama teacher Peter Sutton. Reports indicate that Sutton engaged in inappropriate conduct, including instructing male students to wear revealing attire and pose for photographs, and inviting them to his residence under the guise of mentorship.

Despite complaints to the Department of Education and police, Sutton was transferred to other schools—Monterey High School and Ballam Park Technical School—where he allegedly continued his abusive behaviour. This pattern of relocating accused teachers mirrors broader systemic failures within the Victorian education system.

As of recent reports, at least 12 former students have filed claims related to abuse at Rosebud Secondary College, formerly known as Rosebud High School, situated approximately 94.5 km south of Melbourne’s Central Business District. The long-term impacts on survivors include psychological trauma, substance abuse, and strained relationships.
